3 Sins About Reading Turned To An Advantage
Hello friends,
Today’s topic is an interesting one and I have developed and refined it over the years. And if you have been following me for a while, it may not be new to you also. However, I have not brought it together like I will in this newsletter before.
When it comes to reading, there seems to be a lot of dos and don’ts that surround it. There are 3 don’ts though that we can term “the agreed sins.” They are:
Reading more than one book at a time
Not finishing a book and
Having more books than you can read.
Generally, these together or individually will comprise what an average person will tell you not to do when it comes to reading. But naturally, you will agree with me that we have a high propensity to commit any or all of these sins.
Over the years, I have committed these sins with pride. I always have more books than I can ever read. I read more than one book per time. I have done as high as 7 at a time and as you can imagine, I don’t finish all the books that I pick up to read. In fact, if I am to put a percentage to it, I will say I only finish 4 out of every 10 books that picked up to read.
Why do I do this with no guilt but pride? It’s simple, I focus on the most important thing; learning from the book and implementing change in my life.
The most important reason to pick a book to read is to learn from the book and implement necessary changes in one’s life. Any other goal is secondary.
Books have changed my life. From when I learned from Ben Carson’s Think Big that “if we commit ourselves to reading and thus increasing in knowledge, only God can limit how far we can go in life” to when I learned about the exploration of the universe from Stephen Hawking books, I have transformed my life again and again and will do more as I learn more. And that is my focus whenever I pick my book to read.
I don’t pick it to finish it nor do I pick it to show off how many I have read. Just to learn the much I can learn and implement changes in my life. No less!
That’s not enough though, I have written 3 separate articles to explain more why I commit each of these sins.
