MWB #26 - Timeless Articles, Doing Real Things and Longevity
...What if you could filter all you read to only be quality articles? Dive in!
Hello there,
When I started reading, one of the major issues I faced was getting something of great quality to read. And of at the same time, that is of great interest to me. It took me a while before I found websites like fs.blog, Stratechery, and paulgraham.com to name a few.
A few days ago, as I was ‘hanging out” on the internet, I stumbled on what has become my newest knowledge digest archive. It’s called Read Something Great.
Read Something Great is a website where you get timeless articles from the belly of the internet. Served 5 at a time. If you love reading, I bet you will love in love with this immediately just as I did. Enjoy.
Okay, It’s actually a new month. Sorry, the excitement of sharing that with you almost made me forget.
Happy new month to you…
And so we begin the countdown to the second half of the year. It’s never too late to get it done. Whatever your “it” maybe.
Best of What I wrote
What’s the best way to invest in volatile assets? When an asset is volatile to the extent that you can see 100% gain in a year, then it requires that you invest in such an asset with a different rule. One such rule is that “the higher the potential return, the lower the percentage of your capital you should invest in it.” I explained other rules including this one in the article. Read it.
We begin the middle of the year today. Looking back for me, it’s jaw-breaking the number of things that have happened in the year. And sure that includes me not missing any week to send you this Newsletter so far. It also includes the start of a project that I had to pause for a personal reason. Reminiscing on these past 6 months quickly reminds me of an essay I wrote to myself at the beginning of the year and how it has helped me achieve all I’ve achieved this year. In case you missed it, read it here. It is still relevant.
Best of What I Read
Do the Real Thing - In this provoking article, Scott challenged you and I to have a radical bias towards doing what matters over the appearance of what matters. Instead of reading a book on “how to write”, just start writing. Instead of analyzing the best songs ever written, just start writing your songs.
The premise of the argument is that working on the real thing, although hard, gets you closer to your goals over the fake route that we find for each other. The truth is as Scott mentioned, we are all susceptible to doing fake things. I remember once I paused writing because I wanted to read on how to be better at it. Anyone who’s ever written will testify to the fact that writing is the only way to get better at writing. Well, please read this article to understand how you can do the real thing even if it’s not your default disposition.
The Purpose Of Writing - I, like many other people, have discovered that it is almost impossible to think seriously without writing. Writing clarifies and sharpens your thoughts in a way that is superior to merely articulating them in a conversation. It allows you to look at your ideas more objectively, almost as if they were from another person. You can then examine them and think about if what you have written down is really true.
That was how Sven open the article, “the purpose of writing”. I find it to be true. Read it.
Balaji’s Musings
Balaji continues to push the boundary of crypto imagination. In this new thread, he finds a parallel at how Longevity healthcare could obsolete traditional healthcare just as Crypto is doing to all of finance.
Thought-provoking as always you should read it.
That’s all for the week.
See you in the next.
David.
