MWB #3 - Kindness, Path to Wealth and Biographies
Lessons on the ramifications of kindness, wealth and the influence of biographies.
Hello friends,
I’m glad it’s another Thursday again.
Since you last heard from me, I upgraded my workstation and I love the look so much now (image below). I should have done so in a while but was holding back until I couldn’t again. On getting it I realized that sometimes the monetary value we pay to have comfort may not as much as we think. Comfort can be priceless and the psychological satisfaction that comes with it, oh my gosh, it’s out of this world.
Alright, enough of my workstation story. Lol. Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been reading this book by Shimon Peres, former Prime Minister of Israel. It’s called “No Room For Small Dreams”. It’s the reason I wrote this article. I believe everyone should the book because it’s instructive and challenging. I may write a review when I’m done reading it. A favourite quote from the book:
“It is only after we see failure that we can access if we misjudged the risk… But one must also avoid the temptation to overlearn specific tactical lessons born out of failure or success… A decision can be right even if it leads to failure.”
A big announcement is coming next week, stay tuned.
Best of What I Wrote
Do A Little Act Of Kindness - Life is not linear even though we would appreciate it if it was. People carry different struggles in their heart and a little act of kindness from you can uplift someone else’s heavy heart.
Some months back I was returning late from the office. By late I mean some time around 10 pm. Ahead of me as I took a walk down to my was this woman, having a baby on back, carrying loads on her hand and another on her head. From afar I could tell that the woman is tired. She walked delicately so that the load on her head won’t fall. She moved slowly so that what she was carrying on her hand won’t fall. I will later realize that what was carrying on her hand was a cake due to be used for a wedding the following day… Read to know how that story ends.
Myth – You Will Not Get Rich By Investing - The title is not a mistake it is as real as it gets. Your capacity to make an income is what will give you wealth as you can’t invest your way out of an income problem.
My first salary when I relocated to Lagos was 70k/month. With such an amount, no matter how much I save, before I could have a million naira saved up, it might take between 1 year (if I save everything that I made) to 11 years (if I save just 10% of that income). That’s assuming of course, that I did not get an increase in income. Read full.
Reading Biographies Will Change Your Life - I commited to never stop writing after reading the "Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin". It is profound how reading through someone else's journey can impact our own journey.
In this article, I shared how different biographies that I’ve read contributed to I am today and why I believe reading biography could change your life as well.
Best of What I Read From Others
What Good Shall I Do This Day? - this is a terrific read. I have sent it to as many people as I can since reading it yesterday. Here’s me sharing it with you now as well. What good shall I do today is a question we must all always ask.
Little Black Book | Nollywood Web Series - this is an interesting series on YouTube that I’ve been watching. It’s the story of Omotade who was jobless, got a job, but not the job she hoped for. It’s a developing story that I’m watching as well. You will like it.
In case you missed it, this Inaugural poem by Amanda Gorman delivered at Joe Biden's inauguration is taking the world by storm and I strongly recommend that you listen to it.
Favourite quote from the poem:
For there is always light,
if only we're brave enough to see it
If only we're brave enough to be it.
New workstation:
That will be all for this week.
Until next week.
